Veteran trees are keystone structures and play vital roles in ecosystems. Tree hollows, which filled with a mix of leaves wood that is transformed by the biotic community into mould, represent an important microhabitat. hollow communities consist three major groups organisms: microbes, mesofauna (nematodes, mites springtails) macrofauna (beetles, millipedes other insects). Little known about interplay between associated biota their importance for decomposition mould production. The aim this study was to test how initial food web complexity artificial tree hollows influences structure, decomposition, We used large wooden boxes imitate natural mounted them on 20 veteran oaks Southern Norway. webs were manipulated levels: (i) complex mesofauna, (ii) simple without macrofauna, (iii) only defaunated material. Lastly, we overall rate loss, amounts higher phosphorus. Our results indicate increase structuring, enhance rates production, mediate pathway.
